Downloading National Data Layers

All WFDSS users can download shapefiles for a variety of national data layers from any map display in WFDSS. Due to the immense size of the national datasets, the downloadable shapefile is a smaller subset of the national dataset and is applicable to the shape selected by the user. In addition to downloading individual shapes from within the application, users can download full versions of many data layers from the WFDSS Website. Click here to go to the Spatial Data Downloads Page.

National data layers are obtained from a variety of authoritative sources. The accuracy and completeness of each layer is dependent on the source data and can be improved in future updates of each data set. Given this fact, the accuracy of each data layer should be verified by local sources.

To download national data layers:

  1. From a Situation or Analysis map, select the I Icon Identify tool.
  2. Click the point of interest.
  3. From the left pane, choose the Info tab, then click Feature Information. The Feature Information popup window appears.
  4. Click the Download shapes icon Download icon next to the feature you want to download. The File Download window appears.
  5. When asked if you want to open or save the file, click Save. The Save As window appears.
  6. Navigate to the folder where you want to save the feature ZIP file.
  7. Enter a name for your file.
  8. Click Save.
