Getting National Weather Service Forecast Data (FSPro)

When setting up the weather forecast in FSPro, you can pull the ERC, wind speed and wind direction values directly from the National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast data. Using these forecast values are optional (as it is using a weather forecast if you choose to run FSPro using time-series generated climatological data exclusively), but easy to derive and can be modified with help from the following sources:

• spot weather forecasts,
• incident meteorologists, or
• weather conditions reported in the area of the fire.

You can add or delete rows from the forecast but keep in mind that typically, no more than 33% of the simulation duration should use forecasted weather.

To get National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Data(FSPro)

1. Determine the number of forecast days to use and click on the drop-down arrow to select the number of days.
2. Click Get National Weather Service Forecasts. These forecasts are derived from the nearest 5-km grid point, so it is important to review the output.
3. Click Save Stream and Forecasts.
