3.11 Release Adds Near-Term Fire Behavior Analysis
Version 3.11, released July 15, 2010, adds significant functionality to the fire behavior analysis models. This release also incorporates several other enhancements:
- Near-Term Fire Behavior: Currently available only to super-analysts, NTFB is best for 4-6 day modeling. It's based on FARSITE, though the power of today's computers means far less data entry than was needed in FARSITE. Spotting probabilities work differently in NTFB than they do in STFB. In addition, you can modify the burn periods. The number of conditioning days and burn periods available depend on the weather forecast data available from the selected station. We are still testing this analysis option, so use caution when interpreting the results.
- Home Page: Your Home page displays your work for the past 7 days, making it easier for you to go directly to your tasks.
- Map Layers: Several new map layers have been added. To view them, turn them on in your System Preferences. Data are constantly being added and updated.
- Validation: The validation section has been reworked to make it more clear.
- Strategic Objectives: The Strategic Objectives section has been reworked and changed to make it more user-friendly.
- FMUs: This reference layer is now color-coded. When you navigate to a new part of the country, you need to collapse and re-expand the layer list to view the current FMUs. You can also download the FMU shapes.
Additional details will be available soon in the 3.11 release notes.
