Oil and Natural Pipelines Overview

This data layer in WFDSS is from the Homeland Security Infrastructure Program (HSIP) Gold 2010 version. HSIP Gold 2010 is a unified inventory of homeland infrastructure foundational geospatial data assembled by the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) in partnership with Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for use by the Homeland Security/Homeland Defense (HLS/HD) Community. It is a compilation of the best available Federal government and commercial proprietary data.

This feature class is from the HSIP Gold 2010 Infrastructure ArcGIS 9.3 energy geodatabase.

The following processing steps were followed to edit the original shapefile for use within WFDSS:

• Selected all: " ‘ ‘ ", "ACT", "ACTIVE", "Active", "IN SERVICE" and "PABN (proposed abandonment but could be currently active)" records.
• Other attribute values that were not used:
  • A/C = ABANDONED AND COMBINED ABANDONED
  • ACTIVE - THIS PIPELINE IS IN SERVICE AND BEING UTILIZED
  • CNCL = CANCELLED
  • COMB = COMBINED
  • N/A = NOT APPROVED AT THIS TIME
  • O/C = OUT AND COMBINED
  • OUT = OUT OF SERVICE
  • PABN = PROPOSE ABANDONMENT
  • PREM = PROPOSE REMOVAL
  • PROP = PROPOSED
  • R/A = RELINQUISHED AND ABANDONED
  • R/C = RELINQUISHED AND COMBINED
  • R/R = RELINQUISHED AND REMOVED
  • RELQ = RELINQUISHED
  • REM = REMOVED
  • Advan Develop = Proposed Advanced Development
  • Early Develop = Proposed Early Development
  • Kept only the points in US and US Territories.
  • Re-projected the resulting layer to GCS NAD 83.

WFDSS GIS Team

The WFDSS application is "data rich". It requires data which is spatially oriented and graphically displays information to support wildland fire and other natural resource decisions. In April 2009, an interagency GIS team was formed to provide data support for WFDSS. This team is responsible for acquiring, consolidating, and validating their agency spatial and tabular data. In addition, this team develops and maintains communications amongst local, regional, and national agency personnel to improve the collection process and provide explicit guidance on data needs.
