Gathering Information to Support a Relative Risk Assessment

Before you can calculate Relative Risk for an incident, you must gather data to inform the Hazards, Values and Probability Assessments you will create to drive the overall Wildland Fire Relative Risk Assessment rating for an incident. Data you need includes:

• Values at risk in the area affected by the fire.
• Weather, size, and other data about the fire.
• Seasonal conditions and an understanding of historic fire activity in the area.

This information is available in WFDSS using available tools and map displays, in addition to field experience and conversations with local fire managers.
