The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service (USDA FS) buildings data layer in WFDSS includes all USDA FS buildings currently populated within the USDA FS Infrastructure Application (INFRA) database.
This is a published feature class and is constructed by reformatting data stored in the Infra database and managed by the individual administrative units. If a building does not exist in the INFRA database, it does not appear in this layer.
Caution: The data displayed in WFDSS are intended for STRATEGIC USE ONLY. Always verify the positional accuracy of the data with local knowledge.
Coordinate data entry in INFRA has not always been mandatory. Therefore, many buildings do not have spatial descriptors. In addition, of those buildings that do have spatial descriptors, not all of them have been verified and mistakes in data entry may have occurred. Additions or corrections to this layer can be made through the INFRA database, which can then be spatially enabled and used to update this layer.

The WFDSS application is "data rich". It requires data which is spatially oriented and graphically displays information to support wildland fire and other natural resource decisions. In April 2009 an interagency GIS team was formed to provide data support for WFDSS. This team is responsible for acquiring, consolidating, and validating their agency spatial and tabular data. In addition this team develops and maintains communications among local, regional, and national agency personnel to improve the collection process and provide explicit guidance on data needs. The members of the WFDSS GIS Team are:
