WFDSS has six map views:
The following table explains the icons used in the WFDSS map view:

Map Scale (zoom controls) |
Appears on the Map View. Clicking the sections of the scale zooms the map view in and out. The legend below the scale indicates the scale the current view is set to. |

Directional Arrows (pan controls) |
Appears on the Map View. Clicking the arrows moves the map according to the arrow clicked. |

Hand Icon (pan and zoom tool) |
Appears on the Map View and can be used three ways:

Add Point Icon |
Appears on the Map View. Clicking the icon and then clicking on the map inserts a yellow dot on the map. |
|
Draw Line Icon |
Appears on the Map View. Click the icon, then shift-click on the map where you want to start the line. Click again to set the start point, then drag the cursor across the map to the end point of the line. Click once to set an intermediate point on the line. Shift-click or double-click to set the end point. The line appears red while you are drawing it, and turns yellow when the line is completed (or selected later). To close the line tool, you can shift-click, drag, and release, or click to add segments and shift-click to complete. |

Draw Rectangle Icon |
Appears on the Map View. Click the icon, then place the cursor on the map where you want to start the rectangle. Shift-click and hold the buttons down as you drag the cursor diagonally to where you want the end point. Unclick the mouse button to set the end point. The rectangle appears as a shaded yellow box when selected and as a red rectangle when not selected. |

Draw Polygon Icon |
Appears on the Map View. Click the icon, then place the cursor on the map where you want to start the polygon. Shift-click on the map where you want to start the polygon. Holding the buttons down, drag the cursor to where you want each point for the edge of the polygon, clicking once to set the interim points. Shift-click or Double-click to set the end point. The polygon appears red while you are drawing (or when it's not selected) and turns to a shaded yellow polygon when the shape is completed (or when it's selected later). To close the polygon tool, you can shift-click, drag, and release, or click to add segments and shift-click to complete. |

Arrow Icon (select and deselect a shape on the map tool) |
Appears on the Map View and can be used two ways:

Checkmark Icon (select and deselect a shape on the analysis tool) |
Appears in the LayerSwitcher beneath an Ignition or Barrier shape on the Analysis Map. Clicking the icon selects or deselects that shape for use as an Ignition or Barrier File for that analysis. |

Eraser Icon |
Appears on the Map View. Clicking the icon removes all of the selected (yellow-shaded) shapes from the map. There is no undo, so be sure that you have selected only those shapes you want to remove before clicking the icon. |
|
Ruler Icon (measure tool) |
Appears on the Map View. Clicking the icon changes your cursor to an arrow with a dot on the end. Click the map where you want to start measuring and drag your cursor to the end point. Double-clicking sets the end point. The measured distance appears in the left pane. |

Landscape Extent Icon |
Appears on the Map View. Click the icon, then place the cursor on the map where you want to start a corner of the rectangular landscape extent. Click and hold the mouse button as you drag the cursor diagonally to where you want the end point. Unclick the mouse button to set the end point. The extent appears as a green rectangle. |

Fire Icon |
Appears on the Map View (Intelligence tab only). Clicking the icon changes your cursor to an arrow with a dot on the end. Click the map where the incident is located. The latitude and longitude appear in the left pane. If the incident is large, you can click and hold the mouse button while dragging the cursor across the map to create an incident shape. Double-clicking sets the end point and releases the cursor. |

Information Icon |
Appears on the Map View. Clicking the icon changes your cursor to an arrow. Clicking the map view displays a yellow dot on the map. The latitude, longitude, elevation, fuel model description, and canopy characteristics for the selected location appear in the left pane on the Information tab. |

Camera Icon |
Appears on the Map View. After selecting a polygon, click the camera icon, type the Image Label and Description, then click Capture Image. You are notified that the image was successfully captured in the message area above the map view. |
|
New Incident Marker |
Appears on the Map View. When you click the Fire Icon and then click the map, this yellow dot indicates where the incident is located. The latitude and longitude appear in the left pane of the map page. After an incident is created and saved, the marker changes to a red diamond. |
|
Existing Incident Marker |
Appears on the Map View. Placing your cursor over the marker and clicking the mouse button displays details about the incident. This pop-up page contains a hyperlink that allows you to directly access the WFDSS data for the incident. All incidents logged for a geographic area appear on your map view unless you filter them out. (See Setting Incident Preferences.)These markers change size and color based on the size and status of the incident. |

Multiple Incidents Marker |
Appears when the Intelligence map view is set to such a resolution that multiple incidents are located in the same area. For example, if the map scale is set to 1:8M, and there are multiple incidents within that area, the blue marker appears. To view the individual incidents, zoom in on the area. |
|
Building Cluster Icons |
Appears in the center of the parcel where buildings exist. Verify actual locations with local resources. |
|
BLM Buildings Icon |
Identifies BLM buildings on the landscape. |

Communication Tower Icons |
Identifies communication tower locations. A + sign in the middle of the tower indicates that multiple towers exist in the location. |
Electric Substation Icon |
Identifies the location of electrical substations. |
|
Mine Icon |
Identifies the location of a mine. |
|
NPS Buildings |
Identifies the location of NPS buildings. |
|
Oil and Gas Pipeline Icon |
Identifies oil and gas pipelines. |
|
Power Plant Icon |
Identifies the location of power plants. |
|
Roads Icon |
Identifies major roads. |
|
Transmission Lines Icon |
Identifies transmission lines. |
|
USDA FS Buildings |
Identifies USDA Forest Service buildings |

'Create New' Icon |
Appears in the layer tree for the map. Clicking the icon allows you to name and save a new shape associated with the layer or start a new analysis. |

Refresh Icon |
Clicking the icon refreshes the selected layer on the map. |
|
Help Icon |
Clicking the icon brings up help about the selected layer. |
|
FSPro Histogram |
Appears next to FSPro analyses when results are available. Clicking the icon displays the calculated final fire size for each class. |

Legend Icon |
Clicking the icon displays the legend associated with it. (See also Map Legends.) |

Dynamic Layer Icon |
Appears on the Map view. Content on this page is dynamic. Every time you expand layer information, WFDSS displays the most recently updated information for that layer. |
Layer Order Tool |
Allows you to move a map layer to the front or back of the other layers. |
|
Layer Transparency Tool |
Allows you to increase or decrease the opacity of the selected layer so that you can see other layers and map features. |
|
Download Shape Tool |
Allows you to download the selected shape to your computer. |
|
Delete Shape Tool |
Allows you to delete the selected shape from the map and the layer tree. |
